The Olympics are in town! What do you think about the sponsors?

Well, its been crazy around Vancouver these past few days with the Olympics going on - downtown is normally pretty sleepy, but these days you have to fight the crowds everywhere - and while the weather hasn't been so great for the ski hills, it's just fantastic for us Vancouverites - the warmest winter in 114 years apparently.

Here at The Dizzy Whisk we've been having a great time enjoying the atmosphere and the Games themselves, but what has been getting to us has been the incessant commercials urging our kids to eat junk! Now, we get the fact that sport needs sponsorship, but isn't it incongruous to see companies that are all about junk food being the main sponsors?
My guess is that a lot of kids out there will subliminally link being a great athlete with drinking Coke and eating McDonalds.
And what about the Kraft Dinner ads - they are incredibly convincing  - It is easy to imagine that after seeing the latest ad, many under 15's will probably be firm believers that Kraft Dinners provide the best meal possible.

Parents really face an uphill battle in educating their kids about food and nutrition. It is tough to compete with this daily assault on our kids' good eating habits but there really is no choice - especially while diabetes and obesity remain so prevalent in our society.

So, junk food apparently rules. But we really do have an obligation to teach kids the ability to know what is real food and what is not. This is a challenge that The Dizzy Whisk intends to fight!

Stay tuned for more Olympic updates!
