Should teachers be telling parents what snacks their kids should eat?

In todays's Globe and Mail (March 18 2010), there is an interesting article on whether schools or teachers should have any say in the snacks parents give their kids for school. Clearly the writer is very against this.

My take:  This is not so straightforward. As a parent, it is easy to see why one should be against this. No parent wants to be told that what they are doing is wrong. For someone who is really concerned about increasing levels of obesity and poor health amongst kids due to bad eating habits, it is more of a problem. It is easy to see how a teacher, with a real love for kids, might be terribly frustrated if a child is given junk food to bring to school every day.
